Leo Buscaglia said, ” Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

How  do you find someone who needs your encouragement? They are living and breathing. Look around you at home, at work, or wherever you are and you will find the people around you are in need of encouragement. Here is the great news! Encouraging someone is easy. It can be done by anyone, anytime, anywhere.

What I have found is if you look behind every great achiever you will find a superb encourager. Encouragers commit themselves to giving others encouragement daily. Whether in sports or in business, encouragers are all around us impacting others every single day.

I’d like to share two examples, one in business, and one in sports.

Charles Schwab said, ” I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among men the greatest asset I possess. The way to develop the best that is in a man is by appreciation and encouragement.” He recognizes the magic in encouragement and the enthusiasm it breeds. He knows that this often spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment.

On the sports side, Knute Rockne, the former Notre Dame football coach, was famous for saying, ” An automobile goes nowhere efficiently unless it has a quick, hot spark to ignite things, to set the cogs of the machine in motion. So I try to make every player on my team feel he’s the spark keeping our machine in motion.” His focus on the little things he did every day for his players had a greater impact than he probably imagined.

Both of these men realized that people rise or fall to meet the expectations you have for them.

Imagine the ripple effect if we each encouraged 3 people today!

Be the voice of encouragement. Encouragement can pick someone up quicker than a strong cup of coffee. Make no mistake, the success that takes place in the lives of those around you can start with your legitimately interested encouragement.

Your Encouragement sparks hope. I have heard it said, encouragement is the fuel on which hope runs. If there is hope in the future, there is power in the present. What you think determines your belief which will dictate what is or is not possible for you to accomplish.

Your Encouragement sparks action. Showing that you believe in someone can make all the difference in whether or not they accomplish what they set out to do. Action supersedes everything. The smallest bit of action separates the high achievers from everyone else.

Your Encouragement sparks focus. It enables us to persevere like nothing else and to focus on the further development of our strengths. So, never underestimate the power of an encouraging word. Zig Ziglar used to say, ” You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.”

Your Encouragement sparks persistence. It’s harder to give up on something when someone is rooting you on. Simple words of encouragement like “job well done” or “tremendous effort” really help magnify commitment.

Your Encouragement sparks confidence. A genuine word of encouragement can energize and make a huge difference in one’s perspective of life.Think for a moment. How have you responded when someone told you “you have what it takes” or “I think you can do it”?

So you see, your encouragement is no small thing. Your encouragement today is contagious. Your encouragement today can be someone’s spark to realize that the best is yet to come.

So, who can you encourage today? Don’t ever assume that someone doesn’t need an encouraging word, no matter what the person’s status is.You never know when your encouragement might arrive at just the right moment when someone is considering just throwing in the towel.

As Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.”

Yes, you hold the power to make another person’s life better or worse. What a wonderful opportunity you have to make an impact today!

Do you have someone you would like to share some encouragement with today? A family member, a friend, a co-worker, or an employee? I encourage you to share this post with them.

Do you have certain encouraging words that empower you? If so, I encourage you to share them in the comments.Thank you in advance for sharing your own impactful encouraging words!
